Portfolio

The majority of my work as a paid wordsmith has been in the role of Lead Writer for the Marketing and Communications team at Art Processors, an experiential design and technology company at the forefront of creating new visitor experiences at galleries, museums, and performance spaces across the United States and Asia-Pacific. For other material I’ve written, see the ‘Other’ section further below.

Art Processors

One of my favourite projects to write about was the Bronzeville Walking Tour, an app-based street tour of South Side Chicago written and recorded by five high school students from the neighbourhood. An ‘in-progress’ article on the project was also featured on the SEGD website, for which I interviewed the fascinating and charismatic Harold Green, Executive Director of Flowers For The Living Foundation. Even writing social media copy for Bronzeville was a creative pleasure!

I appreciated the willingness of Art Processors to engage with sensitive and difficult topics, such as their creative redevelopment of Pentridge Prison. I had to dig deep into the complexities of presenting dark and confronting narratives, and in particular, the profoundly traumatic experiences of First Nations prisoners in Pentridge. Another project at the Melbourne Holocaust Museum chronicled some of the darkest chapters of human history.

Like many writers, I love learning about history. Their projects gave me the opportunity to learn about the Alviso Adobe House in California, and the extensive legwork involved in crafting an immersive story from prehistory to the present day. Similarly, the creation of the digital experience for The Embrace in Boston entailed a lot of research about the city’s history of civil rights activism, and branched out to writing some social media copy for Juneteenth.

And of course, writing about the company’s use of creative and cutting-edge technology was always a thrill, whether for an exhibition at the Museum of Sydney, creating new audio sync tech for a Sydney Opera House celebration, or bridging the gap between community and contemporary art at Buffalo AKG in New York.

Other

I spent a few months as a writer for the English edition of Neos Kosmos, the largest Greek community newspaper in Australia, covering a range of topics from Greek wine events in Australia, Greek people performing Japanese taiko drumming, film reviews and interviews with filmmakers, and even a rather self-indulgent travel article on Santorini.

Another travel article of mine - on North Korea, of all places - was published in the journal Quarterly Access Vol. 4 No. 3 by the Australian Institute of International Affairs. A PDF of the article can be downloaded here.

Travel is something that can inspire the enjoyment of writing purely for its own sake, such as this piece I wrote after visiting the Faroe Islands in 2017.

My resume: right here.
